Description

The North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation (NAAEC), which went into effect along with the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) on 1 January 1994, was negotiated to establish a framework for continental environmental cooperation, to address concerns regarding the potential impacts of trade liberalization and increased economic integration on the North American environment, and to promote a cooperative environmental agenda among the three countries on issues of regional importance and mutual concern.
